Release notes – Varjo Base 4.17 Release candidate

October 28, 2026
Supported headset models: XR-4 Series

Note: This release includes a firmware update. The firmware is updated the
next time the headset is connected.

Major video pass-through improvements

This release brings a significant upgrade to video pass-through. On XR-4 Series 2026 headsets, the foveated focus area is now 1.9 times larger, and the surrounding context area has 33% higher resolution. The view is sharper and more detailed, and the edge of the foveated focus area is much less noticeable.

All headsets also get much lower latency and better image quality, with more natural colors and lower image noise.

Performance and reliability improvements

The headset now starts up three times faster and runs quieter and cooler. It also recovers better from unexpected issues, resulting in fewer interruptions and less need to restart.

Real-world lighting simulation

Night mode has been upgraded to a new set of filters that simulate various times of day and daylight conditions, including Night, Cloudy, Sunset, and Sunny. This feature, previously available only through the Varjo Command-line interface, is now available in Varjo Base. Read more about Using Real-world lighting simulation.

People Occlusion out of Beta

People occlusion can now be used with depth information that allows you to define a range that controls how people appear in your scene, showing them in front of or behind virtual objects so they blend naturally into your content. Read more about Using occlusion.
