Release notes – Varjo Base 4.11

Varjo Base, release version 4.11

June 11, 2025
Supported headset models: XR-4 Series, XR-3, VR-3, and Varjo Aero

This release introduces Masking in Varjo Base, possibility to export and import a Varjo Base configuration file, and the new Applications panel.

Note: All listed items concern the XR-4 Series only unless otherwise mentioned.

Masking in Varjo Base

This feature brings the ability to load blend control masks to Varjo Base. Blend control masks have earlier been available only via Varjo native APIs. You can load masks that you have configured in Varjo Lab Tools to Varjo Base. The benefits of loading masks to Varjo Base are that it significantly improves the masks' performance and you don't need to have additional applications running. Read more about Masking in Varjo Base.

Export and import a Varjo Base configuration file

This feature allows you to configure settings and apply them to Varjo Base on multiple computers or switch between different sets of settings on your device. Export settings to generate a Varjo Base configuration file with the current set of Varjo Base settings and Import settings to apply a set already configured settings. Read more about how to Export and import Varjo Base settings.

Applications panel

The new Applications panel feature was added to Varjo Workspace. In the panel, you can see your recently used and pinned virtual and mixed reality applications and start them directly from your headset. Read more about Using Applications panel.

New compatible NVIDIA driver for XR-3, VR-3, and Varjo Aero

NVIDIA released a new driver version which is now compatible with XR-3, VR-3, and Varjo Aero. This fixes the issue where NVIDIA drivers were sometimes causing a "Something went wrong” error.

Other release contents

Varjo inside-out tracking:

  • Improved adaptation to changing lighting conditions and performance in lower light environments.
  • Analytics Window: Added a “Headset tracking environment evaluation” feature that evaluates your environment's suitability for inside-out tracking.
  • Fixed an issue where inside-out tracking initialization failure was causing  "Headset starting" message to show indefinitely.
  • Added user guidance when inside-out tracking fails to initialize.

Varjo hand tracking (Beta):

  • Improved gestures to work more reliably.
  • Reduced lag resulting in a smoother experience.
  • Fixed an issue where the view in the headset sometimes stuttered when the Analytics window was opened at the same time as hand tracking or depth estimation was used.

Other improvements and bug fixes:

  • Improved color distortion correction, reducing color separation and blurriness in the outer edges of the lenses.
  • Improved Varjo Marker tracking stability.
  • Added a full screen option to Varjo Base headset view.
  • Moved settings for Mixed reality cameras, Masking, and Chroma key under the new Mixed reality tab in Varjo Base settings.

Developer tools and APIs:

  • Native SDK
    • Fixed an issue where when an application was calling varjo_ResetPose, varjo_RotationReset_Yaw falsely affected the position.
  • OpenXR:
    • Fixed an issue where XrCompositionLayerQuad was positioned incorrectly when using WASD from Analytics window or Override origin and direction in Varjo Base.
  • Added an indication that overlays with the headset view if an application calls Varjo APIs with Varjo Base Pro features without a valid license.

Known issues:

  • OpenXR:
    • Setting custom timeout with xrSetMarkerTrackingTimeoutVARJO for Varjo Markers is not currently working when xrSetMarkerTrackingPredictionVARJO is disabled. The timeout is set to infinite by default.
