My XR-3, VR-3, or Varjo Aero is not connecting
If your XR-3, VR-3, or Varjo Aero is not connecting to your computer, you can try running a Device cleanup:
- Disconnect your headset and headset adapter from the computer.
- Download the Device Cleanup Tool from deviceceanup.zip.
- Extract the zip file.
- Navigate to the x64 folder.
- Right click DeviceCleanup.exe.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Devices > Select all.
- Select Devices > Remove selected.
- If the ‘Remove selected’ option is grayed out, you did not run the cleanup as administrator.
- Reconnect your headset and headset adapter and try again.
If you still cannot establish a connection with your headset, try the following:
Varjo Base clean installation:
- Uninstall your current Varjo Base.
- Delete the following folders holding Varjo configs, settings and tmp files (the default installation path is C:\Varjo):
- %PROGRAMFILES%\Varjo
- %PROGRAMDATA%\Varjo
- %APPDATA%\varjo-base
- %LocalAppData%\VarjoHome
- Delete the following folders if they still remain:
- C:\Program Files\Inuitive
- C:\Program Files\Varjo\varjo-haldaemon\inuitive_files
- After removing Varjo Base from your system, download and reinstall Varjo Base version 4.14 or older from Varjo Account Portal.
Reinstall SteamVR:
- Close Varjo Base.
- Open Steam.
- Navigate to SteamVR > Manage > Uninstall.
- Restart your PC.
- Launch Steam.
- Reinstall SteamVR.
If this still does not help, you can try completely resetting SteamVR. This will include manually deleting all installation files. You can find more information here: definitive method to reset or restore SteamVR to default / factory options (clean Reinstall) :: SteamVR Troubleshooting
If you are still having trouble, the next thing you can try is checking your Windows settings and USB setup:
- Check the Windows Privacy & Security > Camera settings to ensure that both options ‘Camera access’ and ‘Let desktop app access your camera’ are allowed.
- USB 3.0/3.1 compatibility: Verify that the cable connecting your headset is plugged into a USB 3.0 or USB 3.1 port on the back of your computer.
- Switch USB ports: If the headset still fails to connect, try connecting it to a different USB 3.0/3.1 port on your computer. Sometimes, switching ports can resolve compatibility issues or conflicts.
- Update USB drivers: Keep your USB drivers up to date. Visit the website of your computer's manufacturer or the motherboard manufacturer to find the latest drivers for your USB ports.
- Update USB chipset: Ensure that your USB chipset is up to date. Check the manufacturer's website for any available updates or patches related to your specific chipset model.
